Hey, thanks for dropping by!

My name is Johnny Marr........not to be confused with the other 'Johnny Marr'  :)

There's always been a guitar of some description in my household from as far back as I dare remember.

Back in the day my older brother had a classical acoustic and was taking lessons.
For me however, this guitar was a huge sailing ship used for transporting my toy soldiers around the living room.
The enemy soldiers would be confined to the depths of the ship (ie the body of the guitar), much to my brother's annoyance!
It would also occasionally serve as a substitute cricket bat.

One fine day I discovered the magic of a band called T Rex and decided that I would like to emulate their charismatic vocalist and guitarist, the wonderful Marc Bolan.

My Early inspiration,

the charismatic

Marc Bolan

So I picked the guitar up, emptied it of all it's prisoners, and tried to press down on the strings to play something.
This proved to be far too painful on my fingers so I swiftly put it down again.

My interest in music had been awakened however.

I joined up with a local brass band and learned how to play the trombone.
The band taught me how to play with others, as well as timing and musical discipline.

It was a wonderful time and was akin to learning a new language.
I played the same instrument in local orchestras too.

My love for rock n roll hadn't diminished, and from the brass band several of us decided to form a rock group.
As previously mentioned, my brother had a classical guitar so I was automatically given the job of lead guitarist with the new group!!

I bought my first electric guitar and would sit for hours listening to and trying to emulate my favourite guitarists of the day.

Our first gig was at my school hall.
Tickets were sold for 25p each and, much to our delight, it was a great success.

My first gig .....

Campion High

The band went from strength to strength and, with a lot of work, we were lucky enough to play all over the UK and across Europe.
Playing guitar was so much fun and so fulfilling.
I also met so many interesting characters along the way who became lifelong friends and helped shape the person I am today.

The band becoming

a little more established

We don't play live anymore but occasionally put videos online for fun.
I've added some on the following page.

I have now decided that I'd love to share my guitar knowledge with other people to encourage them to go forwards with this wonderful versatile instrument.

I possess a wealth of knowledge and experience that I'm ready to pass on to you.
